<p>Harry Connick Jr has shared the tragic news that his father, Harry Connick Sr has passed away aged 97. </p> <p>The former <em>Australian Idol</em> judge's father, who was New Orleans’ district attorney for three decades, died peacefully at his home on Thursday surrounded by family. </p> <p>The cause of death has not been revealed. </p> <p>Harry Connick Jr greatly admired his father who he called his “hero and inspiration.”</p> <p><span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;">Harry Connick Sr </span>passed on his love for music to his son, as prior to his career in law he owned two record stores in New Orleans and regularly performed in bands around the city’s French Quarter, according to <em>People</em> magazine. </p> <p>He then began his career as a New Orleans district attorney from 1973 until his retirement in 2003. </p> <p>New Orleans’ current district attorney, Jason Williams, has shared his condolences to Connick's family. </p> <p>“Mr. Connick remains the longest tenured District Attorney, serving from 1973-2003. Such a longstanding public servant gives an enormous amount of themselves to their community — as do their families,” he wrote.</p> <p>“Our thoughts are with the Connick family during this difficult time.”</p> <p>Despite often travelling out of the US for his music and acting commitments, Harry Connick Jr loved spending time with his father. </p> <p>One of the last few pictures he shared of them together was posted last October, where he described “hanging with my dad” as “my FAVOURITE thing in the world”.</p> <p>“I come to see him about once a month in New Orleans, and it’s still not enough!” he wrote on Instagram.</p> <p>“At 97, he continues to be my hero and inspiration ... Harry Connick Jnr finally comes clean on feud with Kyle

<p>Kyle Sandilands and Harry Connick Jr. have hashed out their rumoured ongoing feud, calling a truce live on air. </p> <p>The radio shock jock welcomed the singer on <em>The Kyle and Jackie O Show</em> on Wednesday morning to discuss his upcoming Australian tour, when Sandilands brought up their long-running beef. </p> <p>“You know what I admire about Harry, and I’ve watched Harry too,” he told co-host Jackie O when Connick Jr. was on the line.</p> <p>“When you think some doesn't like you, you watch them, you, over-analyse them and you start getting in your head, ‘I wonder why he doesn’t like me?’”</p> <p>Kyle then discussed some lessons he had learned from Harry during their time on Australian Idol together, “What I do know about Harry, and he told the Idol contestants this last year, is read the room. You’ve got to perform to whoever is there, whether it’s an auditorium or it’s to three people on a TV show.”</p> <p>Rather than welcoming the compliment, Connick Jr. thought Sandilands was being sarcastic and "tricky" by stirring the pot. </p> <p>“I see how tricky you are, slipping in there that I don’t like you,” the star said on air. “I don’t know where you got that from. I do like you very much and I really enjoyed our time together. So I see you trying to flip that in there, but you’re not gonna get that past me, pal.”</p> <p>Henderson said Sandilands may have been “paranoid”, while he agreed he “misread” the situation.</p> <p>“So this whole time, I should’ve maybe asked,” he told Connick Jr, who replied: “I love my wife and kids, and I’ve been very lucky in may career. Life is too short for any kind of … I just love life. So when you say I don’t like you, I’m not sure where that comes from, but for the record, I do like you very much and so everything is cool from my end.”</p> <p>While he accepted the explanation, Sandilands also remained slightly sceptical because Connick Jr “is a very good actor” after all, he said.</p> <p>“But Kyle the thing about actors is we don’t lie – we tell the truth,” replied Connick Jr.</p> <p>“You gotta tell the truth in the scene because, if you’re lying, you’re not being true to your character.”</p> <p>Sandilands then urged listeners to forget “everything I’ve ever said about Harry”.</p> <p><em>Image credits: KIIS FM / Getty Images</em></p>

Kyle and Harry’s feud moves to the live stage

<p>Kyle Sandilands and Harry Connick Jr have traded ‘respectful’ slights while offering feedback to one young contestant during live shows for <em>Australian Idol</em>. </p> <p>The pair were unable to see eye-to-eye on how one singer should approach her next performance, after having taken the judging table by surprise with her position in the bottom four, and made no secret of their differing industry opinions. </p> <p>“You could really throw a curveball,” Harry, who is halfway towards an EGOT [an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award winner], suggested to her. “And do something completely unproduced, completely stripped down, just bare.” </p> <p>Kyle interrupted with a series of disagreeing noises, prompting Harry to ask, “you disagree?” </p> <p>“No, that would stress– I love your musical knowledge, but the contest side panics me,” Kyle said, “I love what you’re saying to her, because as an artist that’s valuable. But in the contest - right at the end, ‘oh, let’s do something different’.” </p> <p>“No, but there’s the thing,” Harry said, addressing the young singer on stage, “I’m telling you as objectively as I can, that’s what I would do. Because we’ve already seen this, every single week it’s like a ten, ten, ten, ten, ten.”</p> <p>After fumbling over his words, Harry then stated “no, actually, I’m talking to Kyle. If Kyle understands.” </p> <p>“This is what I understand,” Kyle shot back. “You show up in a Ferrari not a Datsun with some mag wheels on it.”</p> <p>Immediately, Harry responded to tell everyone “therein lies the difference. I understand what Kyle says but I don’t think - respectfully - you understand what I’m saying.” </p> <p>Kyle went on to try and convince the contestants that their best plan of attack would be not to try and impress Harry, but instead to consider the people watching the competition. </p> <p>“This is a place where you sing to win,” he stated. “You win the record deal, then you go and you do your ‘airy fairy artist party stuff’.” </p> <p>The 51-year-old radio host had previously opened up to <em>Daily Mail Australia </em>about their relationship, telling them, “it's not bulls***. There's no drama really. It's like, you know when someone just doesn't like you, you can tell?”</p> <p>He went on to admit that while he doesn’t hate Harry, the two don’t spend a lot of time with each other. “I'm never speaking to him again": Kyle's feud with Harry Connick Jnr leaps to another level

<p>Kyle Sandilands is in for a bout of silent treatment with his co-star Harry Connick Jr after a prank drew a far from desirable response from the exasperated American. </p> <p>The pair, who star as judges on 2023’s season of <em>Australian Idol</em>, had been unsure about each other from the beginning. </p> <p>On <em>KIIS FM </em>with Will and Woody, Kyle confessed that “I don’t think he gelled with me. If someone doesn’t like you, and you feel it, you just don’t like them automatically.”</p> <p>With tensions already between them, Kyle recalled a critical phone call that led to the pair ceasing communication off the set, “I just thought ‘what a flop’ and hung up. That was it. Friendship over.”</p> <p>On set, however, their situation wasn’t much better, and things boiled over when one of Kyle’s <em>KIIS FM </em>colleagues decided to play a little prank on the judges. </p> <p>The 51-year-old radio presenter saw 'Intern' Pete Deppeler from <em>KIIS FM </em>swing by the set for an audition that was doomed from the start. </p> <p>Pete, who entered in disguise with big glasses and a face mask, informed the judges that he would be performing a song titled ‘Big D**k Energy’. He went on to perform a unique rendition of Harry Styles’ hit ‘Watermelon Sugar’. </p> <p>Kyle claimed not to have any idea what was going on when the big reveal came, while Kyle’s fellow judges Amy Shark and Meghan Trainor were thoroughly entertained by the stunt, the same could not be said for Harry Connick Jr who opted to leave the set. </p> <p>As one fan put it, “obviously Harry had a tantrum and didn't want to be in on this. Is Kyle too cruel even for Australian Idol?

<p>Kyle Sandilands, known across Australia for his controversial no-filter commentary, has once again caused a stir with his take on one<em> Australian Idol </em>contestant’s audition. </p> <p>Kyle, the only original cast member to return for the show’s reboot, was joined by Meghan Trainor, Harry Connick Jr, and fellow Australian Amy Shark.</p> <p>Ali Morriss, a 27-year-old aged care worker from Brisbane, kicked off her audition with an unusual technique - handing out copies of her young adult novel Outside to the judges. The book is published under the pen name RA Bissmire.</p> <p>Kyle’s inappropriate remark came after Ali informed the judges which song she’d be performing for her audition, <em>Untouched</em> by The Veronicas. </p> <p>“Is it because you are untouched?” Sandilands asked. </p> <p>Ali replied, “I don’t know if I can answer that.” </p> <p>Kyle’s comment, which had nothing to do with Ali’s singing ability and everything to do with his “shock jock” approach to commentary, drew varied reactions from his fellow judges. </p> <p>“Oh my god,” Meghan Trainor exclaimed, waving a hand in Kyle’s direction from her position next to him on the panel, “oh my god. It’s a family show.”</p> <p>Amy Shark managed an uncomfortable laugh, leaning away. </p> <p>Meanwhile, Harry Connick Jr did not dignify Kyle’s jab with a response, keeping his gaze down and locked on Ali’s gifted book. </p> <p>Ali’s situation wasn’t set to improve, with her rendition of <em>Untouched</em> falling short of what the judges were searching for. </p> <p>“This is a hardcore singing show,” Harry Connick Jr told her in a bid to soften the rejection, “and as lovely as you are, you’re just not ready for that.”</p> <p>Amy Shark agreed with Harry’s take, telling Ali that she’d selected a difficult song in the first place, even adding, “I feel like it’s a song only the Veronicas can crush.”</p> <p>It was then that Kyle chose to follow up on his initial approach to Ali’s audition, holding her book up as he told her, “I think you should go outside.” </p> <p>Kyle’s attitude has left a bad taste in the mouths of many viewers, especially given the show’s approach to “respecting” their talents this season. </p> <p>In a pinned tweet from January 30, producers invited the audience to join them for a “respectful season”. Why King Charles reacted with "torrents of profanity" to Donald Trump's comments

<p>A new book has claimed King Charles unleashed a "torrent of profanity" towards former US President Donald Trump after he made inappropriate comments about Kate Middleton. </p> <p>Earlier this week, <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-kate-middleton-remark-profanity-prince-william-harry-1756283" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Newsweek </a>reported on excerpts obtained from Christopher Andersen’s upcoming royal biography, <em>The King: The Life of Charles III</em>. </p> <p>The book claims that the royal family was furious with the then-President after his distasteful tweets about the Princess of Wales came to light. </p> <p>In 2012, Mr Trump tweeted about the Princess of Wales after photographs of her sunbathing topless were published in the French publication Closer.</p> <p>“Kate Middleton is great – but she shouldn’t be sunbathing in the nude – only herself to blame,” Mr Trump tweeted at the time. “Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on Kate!”</p> <p>Mr Andersen wrote in his book that, at the time, “Trump’s criticism of Kate resulted in what one Clarence House butler referred to as ‘torrents of profanity’ from both Prince Charles and his sons.”</p> <p>He also alleged that this wasn’t the first time the royals had openly expressed their disapproval of Mr Trump.</p> <p>Prior to the incident in 2012, Mr Andersen explained that Trump’s previous comments about Princess Diana were also not well-received by the royal family.</p> <p>“It didn’t help that Trump had aggressively pursued Princess Diana after her divorce—overtures that were rebuffed—and claimed later on a radio program that he could have ‘nailed her if I wanted to,’ but only if she passed an HIV test,” Mr Andersen wrote.</p> <p>After several instances of tension with the former President, the book claims that King Charles, when prompted by a former Washington official, referred to him as "a ghastly, awful man".</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

"Where is the diversity?": Australian Idol judging panel hits first major snag

<p dir="ltr"><em>Australian Idol </em>is yet to hit the screens but it’s already facing a major problem with its lack of diversity.</p> <p dir="ltr">Radio shock jock <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/entertainment/music/he-s-a-real-crooner-kyle-reveals-judging-line-up-for-return-of-australian-idol" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kyle Sandilands announced</a> that he will be joined by US singers Meghan Trainor and Harry Connick Jr and Australian pop star Amy Shark as judges on the talent show.</p> <p dir="ltr">The show’s social media accounts also shared the news but many people asked about the lack of diversity with the judges.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Where is the diversity?” queried former ABC News reporter Mark Kearney.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The OG Australian Idol had at the heart of its panel Marcia Hines. This one has … a foul shock jock with a history of racism, misogyny and homophobia? Poxy McPoxface, TRUMP-22, Mpox: Public called on to rename monkeypox virus

<p>The World Health Organisation has called on the expertise of the public to help them rename the monkeypox virus after claiming the name is "misleading".</p> <p>Names for viruses are usually chosen by a committee behind closed doors, but the WHO has decided to open up the process to allow submissions from all over the world. </p> <p>Names such as Poxy McPoxface, TRUMP-22 or Mpox have been put forward so far, prompting the WHO to say they will choosing a serious name. </p> <p>WHO spokesperson Fadela Chaib said, "I am sure we will not come up with a ridiculous name."</p> <p>Dozens of submissions have now been made from a range of contributors including academics, doctors, and a gay community activist.</p> <p>One more technical submission came from Harvard Medical School emergency physician Jeremy Faust, who said the virus should simply be called OPOXID-22.</p> <p>Another proposal, TRUMP-22, appeared to be refer to former US President Donald Trump who used the controversial term "Chinese virus" for the new coronavirus, although its author said it stood for "Toxic Rash of Unrecognized Mysterious Provenance of 2022".</p> <p>Pressure is growing for a new name for the disease, largely because critics say it is misleading, since the virus did not originate in monkeys. </p> <p>A group of leading scientists wrote a position paper in June calling for a name that was "neutral, non-discriminatory and non-stigmatizing" amid fears the name can be used in a racist way.</p> <p>"It's very important we find a new name for monkeypox because this is best practice not to create any offence to an ethical group, a region, a country, an animal etc," Miss Chaib said.</p> <p>"The WHO is very concerned by this issue and we want to find a name that is not stigmatising," she added without giving a timeline of when the new name may be decided. </p> <p>Monkeypox was first discovered in 1958 and named after the first animal to show symptoms.</p> <p>The WHO declared the current outbreak a public health emergency in July having reported more than 32,000 cases from over 80 countries.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

Lookism: beauty still trumps brains in too many workplaces

<p>Universities position themselves as places where brains matter. It seems strange then that students at a US university would rate attractive academics to be better teachers. This <a href="https://www.timeshighereducation.com/news/attractive-female-academics-rated-better-teachers">was the finding</a> of a <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0272775719307538?dgcid=coauthor">recent paper</a> from the University of Memphis, which concluded that female academics suffered most from this.</p> <p>It raises an uncomfortable proposition, that beauty trumps brains even in 21st century workplaces. It would certainly be supported by veteran female broadcasters <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/media/2020/sep/22/bbc-subjects-older-women-to-lookism-says-libby-purves">such as</a> radio presenter Libby Purves, who recently complained about the way the BBC dispenses with women of a certain age.</p> <p><a href="https://www.peoplemanagement.co.uk/news/articles/quarter-of-women-asked-to-dress-more-provocatively-for-video-meetings">Another survey</a>, this time in the UK, gave a deeper sense of the problem. It reported that employers were asking female employees to dress “sexier” and wear make-up during video meetings.</p> <p>Published by law firm Slater and Gordon over the summer, and based on a poll of 2,000 office-based staff working from home during lockdown, the report found that 35% of women had experienced at least one sexist demand from their employer, usually relating to how they dressed for video meetings. Women also reported being asked to wear more makeup, do something to their hair or dress more provocatively. Reasons offered by their bosses were that it would “help win business” and be “pleasing to a client”.</p> <p>It seems as though the shift to more virtual working has not eradicated what Danielle Parsons, an employment lawyer at Slater and Gordon, described as “archaic behaviour” which “has no place in the modern working world”. When employees’ performance is judged on the basis of their physical appearance, potentially shaping their pay and prospects in work, it is known as lookism. It’s not illegal, but arguably it should be.</p> <h2>Beauty and the boss</h2> <p>The Slater and Gordon survey findings affirm that many trends that we describe in our recent book, <a href="https://uk.sagepub.com/en-gb/eur/aesthetic-labour/book232313">Aesthetic Labour</a>, are widespread and continuing despite remote working. Our book reports over 20 years of research and thinking about this problem. Although our research started by focusing on frontline work in hospitality and retail, the same issue has expanded into a diverse range of roles including academics, traffic wardens, recruitment consultants, interpreters, TV news anchors and circus acrobats.</p> <p>Companies think that paying greater attention to employees’ appearance will make them more competitive, while public sector organisations think it will make them more liked. As a result, they are all becoming ever more prescriptive in telling employees how they should look, dress and talk.</p> <p>It happens both to men and women, though more often to women, and is often tied in more broadly with sexualising them at work. For example, while Slater and Gordon found that one-third of men and women had “put up with” comments about their appearance during video calls, women were much likelier to face degrading requests to appear sexier.</p> <p>When we analysed ten years of employees’ complaints about lookism to the Equal Opportunities Commission in Australia, we found that the proportion from men was rising across sectors but that two-thirds of complaints were still from women. Interestingly, the <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0272775719307538?dgcid=coauthor">University of Memphis study</a> found no correlation for male academics between how their looks were perceived and how their performance was rated.</p> <h2>Society’s obsession</h2> <p>Of course, workplaces cannot be divorced from society in general, and within the book we chart the increasing obsession with appearance. This aestheticisation of individuals is partly driven by the ever-growing reach and importance of the beauty industry and a huge rise in cosmetic – now increasingly labelled aesthetic – surgery.</p> <p>These trends are perhaps understandable given that those deemed to be “attractive” benefit from a “beauty premium” whereby they are more likely to get a job, more likely to get better pay and more likely to be promoted. Being deemed unattractive or lacking the right dress sense can be reasons to be denied a job, but they are not illegal.</p> <p><a href="https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/146954050200200302#:%7E:text=DEFINING%20THE%20AESTHETIC%20ECONOMY%20An,omic%20calculations%20of%20that%20setting.">Some researchers</a> have described an emerging aesthetic economy. Clearly this raises concerns about unfair discrimination, but without the legal protection afforded to, say, disabled people.</p> <p>Not only has this trend continued during the pandemic, it might even have been compounded. With the first genuine signs of rising unemployment <a href="https://www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peopleinwork/employmentandemployeetypes/bulletins/employmentintheuk/october2020">reported this month</a>, research already suggests a <a href="https://www.recruitment-international.co.uk/blog/2020/08/job-applications-spike-by-more-than-1300-percent-for-some-roles">14-fold increase</a> in the number of applicants for some job roles. For example, one restaurant in Manchester had over <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/jul/28/eight-people-claiming-employment-support-for-every-vacancy-says-thinktank">1,000 applicants</a> for a receptionist position, while the upmarket pub chain All Bar One reported over 500 applicants for a single bar staff role in Liverpool.</p> <p>Employers are now clearly spoilt for choice when it comes to filling available positions, and those perceived to be better looking will likely have a better chance. We know <a href="https://www.emerald.com/insight/content/doi/10.1108/IJCHM-04-2020-0314/full/html?skipTracking=true">from research</a> by the University of Strathclyde’s Tom Baum and his colleagues that the hospitality industry was precarious and exploitative enough even before COVID.</p> <p>It all suggests that lookism is not going away. If we are to avoid the archaic practices of the old normal permeating the new normal, it is time to rethink what we expect from the workplace of the future. One obvious change that could happen is making discrimination on the basis of looks illegal. “Truly grotesque”: Ivana Trump’s golf course burial may help Trump get tax breaks

<p dir="ltr">Ivana Trump, who <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/ivana-trump-s-cause-of-death-revealed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed away</a> aged 73 in her New York home in mid-July, has been buried on the grounds of her ex-husband Donald Trump’s golf club - and the choice of burial plot may grant the former US president some long-sought tax breaks.</p> <p dir="ltr">Ivana is the first person known to have been buried at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, a state where land taxes are notoriously high.</p> <p dir="ltr">But, cemetery land is exempt from all taxes, rates and assessments, with the <em><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jul/31/donald-ivana-trump-cemetery-golf-course-taxes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Guardian</a></em> reporting that Ivana’s grave would therefore have “advantageous tax implications”.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to <a href="https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/465718872" target="_blank" rel="noopener">documents</a> published by <em>ProPublica</em>, the Trump family trust has previously sought to classify a nearby property in Hackettstown, New Jersey, as a cemetery company.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-3a591a41-7fff-0b6c-29fd-34b394d09e94"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">Brooke Harrington, a professor of sociology at Dartmouth College, tweeted that she investigated claims that the placement of Ivana’s grave would benefit Trump.</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">As a tax researcher, I was skeptical of rumors Trump buried his ex-wife in that sad little plot of dirt on his Bedminster, NJ golf course just for tax breaks. </p> <p>So I checked the NJ tax code & folks...it's a trifecta of tax avoidance. “I will miss her forever”: Ivanka Trump pays tribute to “wickedly funny” Ivana

<p dir="ltr">Ivanka Trump has shared a heartbreaking tribute to her mother, Ivana Trump, who <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/news/news/ivana-trump-s-cause-of-death-revealed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed away on Thursday</a> at the age of 73.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 40-year-old took to Instagram to share a gallery of photos of her mum, including several of them together, writing that she was “heartbroken” by the news and that she will “miss her forever”.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-93e9c925-7fff-aae6-f6d4-9b5d82fc42dd"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">“Heartbroken by the passing of my mother. Ivana Trump's cause of death revealed

<p dir="ltr">Ivana Trump, the first wife of Donald Trump, has died aged 73.</p> <p dir="ltr">Police sources told the <em><a href="https://nypost.com/2022/07/14/ivana-trump-ex-wife-of-former-president-trump-dead-at-73/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a></em> that Ivana was found at the bottom of a staircase in her Manhattan home at 12.40pm on Thursday after they were called to her home for a wellness check.</p> <p dir="ltr">Authorities believe she died as a result of suffering a cardiac arrest.</p> <p dir="ltr">However, the official cause of death is yet to be determined.</p> <p dir="ltr">Her children, Donal Jr Trump and Eric Trump, shared the news on Thursday night (local time), describing their mother as a “survivor” and “an incredible woman”.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Our mother was an incredible woman – a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend,” a statement from the family read.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Ivana Trump was a survivor. Mid-flight singalong strikes the wrong chord

“Turn the cameras off!”: Trump storms out on Piers Morgan

<p>Former US President Donald Trump has erupted at Piers Morgan before storming off the set of an interview that touched on the “stolen” US presidential election.</p> <p>After Morgan lay the blame for last year’s deadly riots at the Capitol squarely at Trump’s feet – largely for his refusal to concede that he had lost the 2020 presidential election – Trump had had enough, and began screaming that Morgan was “dishonest” and “a fool”, before demanding that the shocked TV crew “turn the cameras off!”</p> <p>Trump appears to have been deeply angered by a slew of barbs that Morgan has directed towards him during his time at the White House, despite being friends for at least 15 years. But in this instance, the pair appeared to clash heavily even before the interview had gotten underway – but while the cameras were rolling. </p> <p>Morgan detailed the behind-the-scenes incident to <a href="https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/current-affairs/donald-trump-piers-morgan-interview-former-president-explodes-at-disloyal-fool/news-story/35a81812a4d93cb3751a60957fcaa424" target="_blank" rel="noopener">news.com.au</a>, saying that Trump stared at him with “undisguised fury” and was “almost foaming at the mouth”.</p> <p>At one point, the Trump hissed at Morgan: “What the f**k is this?”</p> <p>You’re not real. You’re a fake.” To which Piers replied: “No, I’m just brutally honest.”</p> <p>Morgan revealed further details from the encounter:</p> <p>“Normally, he’d greet me with a cheery smile and the words ‘How’s my champ?’ because I was his first Celebrity Apprentice on the series that made him a TV superstar. But this time, there were no such welcoming niceties.</p> <p>“He was staring at me across his desk with undisguised fury, clutching the document entitled ‘Piers Morgan Comments About President Trump’. “What the f**k IS this?” he snarled. Then he began slowly reading out some of the quotes. “Trump’s a supreme narcissist….” Pause. “His pathetic antics in the past few weeks since losing the election in November have been utterly contemptible.” Pause. “Trump’s now too dangerous, he’s morphed into a monster that I no longer recognise as someone I considered to be a friend and thought I knew.”</p> <p>“Each time he paused, he peered over the document at me, with mounting rage in his eyes.</p> <p>“I’d never seen him so livid or felt so uncomfortable in his presence as I did right now in his office.</p> <p>“He was almost foaming at the mouth and kept shaking his head slowly and menacingly at me, like Don Corleone when he felt he’d been disrespected.”</p> <p>Morgan then went on to detail the moment Trump truly took issue with his questions: </p> <p>“Things took a dramatic downward turn when I finally brought up his refusal to accept defeat in 2020 and the appalling scenes on January 6.</p> <p>“I told him I believe he lost the supposedly “rigged, stolen” election, I repeatedly pointed out his failure to produce any evidence of the widespread voter fraud he insists occurred to rob him of his presidency, and I blamed his refusal to admit defeat for the deadly riots at the Capitol.</p> <p>“Then you’re a fool!” he sneered. “And you haven’t studied!...”</p> <p>“Now abandoning any pretence at cordiality, Trump ranted that he was far more honest than me, and again sneered that I wasn’t ‘real’ before haranguing me for exceeding our 20 minutes which was particularly disingenuous given that during all our previous interviews, he’d invariably decided exactly how long he wanted to keep talking.</p> <p>“Incensed Trump tried to end things by declaring “That’s it!” before I reminded him that we hadn’t discussed his hole-in-one, which he then sat down again and did – briefly – before abruptly jumping to his feet, looking hateful, and barking at the shocked crew: “Turn the cameras off!”</p> <p>“Then he turned on his heels, and sloped angrily off through a side door, loudly muttering “So dishonest…”</p> <p>The world exclusive interview is due to air as the launch piece for Morgan’s new show Piers Uncensored on Sky News on Tuesday night at 9pm AEST.</p> <p><em>Image: Piers Uncensored</em></p>

"That won't be happening": Why Clive Palmer refused ICU treatment

<p dir="ltr">Clive Palmer rejected ICU treatment when he contracted Covid and instead called specialists in the US who treated former President Donald Trump.</p> <p dir="ltr">The <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/news/news/clive-palmer-rushed-to-hospital" target="_blank" rel="noopener">billionaire was rushed</a> to Pindara Private Hospital on the Gold Coast with breathing difficulties on February 27 after contracting the Delta variant of Covid.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 67-year-old mining magnate was also diagnosed with double pneumonia, but refused ICU treatment which was strongly suggested by doctors.</p> <p dir="ltr">Palmer instead left the hospital and returned to his mansion where he called the US specialists on Zoom, where he was fast-tracked into a drug trial where they pumped a cocktail of five antiviral drugs into him.</p> <p dir="ltr">Two of the drugs included ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, which have not yet been approved by the Therapeutics Goods Association (TGA).</p> <p dir="ltr">Palmer’s senior management contacted American gastroenterologist and Ivermectin advocate Professor Thomas Borody along with a team of US specialists.</p> <p dir="ltr">The US doctors worked with Palmer’s doctors to monitor his treatment at home, including having an ambulance waiting outside in the event he needed to be rushed back to hospital.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I would have died otherwise, without doubt,’’ Palmer told <a href="https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/coronavirus/clive-palmer-refused-icu-treatment-while-battling-covid19-in-favour-of-taking-ivermectin-and-hydroxychloroquine/news-story/c6fc9735e2e93c2a2ebbc987198e2f9c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sky News</a>.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I've been told that without the antiviral intervention on that Sunday night I would likely have been dead within five hours.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The US specialists, a couple of whom treated (Donald) Trump for Covid, were very strong about not going onto a ventilator.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I had faith in the US doctors. I'm not being critical of the Pindara people at all. Can an algorithm assess Trump’s control over discourse?

<div> <div class="copy"> <p>Controversial former US president Donald Trump will always be remembered for his prolific and volatile <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://cosmosmagazine.com/people/society/in-disasters-twitter-influencers-are-out-tweeted/" target="_blank">twitter </a>presence, but it’s difficult to assess, on the basis of a social media site with billions of tweets and users, how much influence these messages have actually had on public opinion.</p> <p>To find out, researchers have conducted a computational analysis of the many phrases found in Trump’s tweets between 2016 and 2021, looking for answers about how powerful the former president’s influence was over public narratives at that time.</p> <p>The study, led by Peter Dodds of the University of Vermont, Burlington, US, is published today in <em>PLOS ONE.</em></p> <p>The researchers developed a novel computational method for analysing tweets in order to build timelines of stories on a given subject. They analysed all tweets related to Trump spanning the five-year study period, applying their algorithms to measure the temporal dynamics – the fluctuating relevance over time – of stories, as represented by words or short phrases, like “Hillary” and “travel ban”.</p> <p>They noted that the turbulence of a story – how quickly it declined in dominance as new stories arose – varied over time and by topic. Trump’s first year in office, 2017, was the most turbulent, with a myriad of dominant stories like “Russia” and “Comey”.</p> <p>Turbulence declined in 2018 onwards, with stories enduring for longer periods, including 2018’s “Mueller” and 2020’s “Covid-19”. Turbulence spiked with 2020’s Black Lives Matter protests, the 2020 election and 2021’s Capitol riot.</p> <p>“In 2020, story turbulence around Trump exploded with the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the murder of George Floyd, and the presidential election,” the authors write, “but also ground to a halt as these stories dominated for long stretches.”</p> <p>So, what does this all mean? The persistence of some stories over others could suggest higher social relevance, and, crucially, the authors note their technique as a way of measuring the zeitgeist and its attitudes over time in a large-scale, systematic way, with implications for recorded history, journalism, economics and more.</p> <p>The researchers say their analysis was also able to measure how much Trump controlled the narrative of each story, based on how much his tweets were retweeted, with his tweets about “Fake news” and “Minneapolis” retweeted far more than those about “coronavirus” and “Jeffrey Epstein”, for example. Bizarre letter from mother of accused high school shooter emerges

They don’t care about learning and threaten to kill my mom for caring about their grades.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Do you realize Mr Trump that they get free tutors, free tablets from our government so they can succeed? Image: Getty Images</span></em></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Prosecutors </span><a rel="noopener" href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10268829/The-mom-accused-Oxford-High-School-shooter-penned-letter-revealing-sons-struggles.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">announced</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> they would charge him as an adult so he could be convicted and sentenced to life in prison, as Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald said there was a “mountain” of evidence against him at a press conference.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It was also revealed that the teen had detailed how he wanted to shoot students at the school in a journal found inside his backpack, and that he had recorded a video saying he was planning to attack the school the night before.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the days before the incident, Ethan posted about his father’s new Sig Sauer 9mm handgun on social media and pretended it was his.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Just got my new beauty today. SIG Sauer 9MM. Former Trump staffer warned about playing Taylor Swift music

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A former advisor to previous vice president Mike Pence has claimed she was once warned about playing Taylor Swift in the White House. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Olivia Troye, a former homeland, counterterrorism and coronavirus adviser, sat down with MSNBC reporter Chris Hayes to chat about her time working as an aide within the controversial Trump administration. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Olivia explained that she was playing Taylor Swift’s music loudly in her office after losing an argument about something she disagreed with relating to the government’s handling of the pandemic. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Shortly after she began playing the music, Olivia claims a colleague knocked on the door of her office and said, “Are you trying to get fired?”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Olivia said she was “super confused” by the comment, and replied, </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">“For being blunt in meetings, or for what?”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Her colleague then responded and said, “I don’t think [Swift] is a fan of Trump’s, so if somebody hears that you should really watch your back. <p dir="ltr">Thomas Markle Jr opened up about his relationship with estranged half-sister Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, on Big Brother VIP on Monday night, with the support of fellow housemate and former<span> </span><em>Survivor<span> </span></em>favourite Luke Toki.</p> <p dir="ltr">On Monday night’s episode, Toki, who’s been developing a friendship with Markle, was called into the diary room and asked to read the infamous letter Markle wrote to Prince Harry. In the letter, Markle urged Harry to reconsider his marriage, and called the pair’s marriage “the biggest mistake in royal wedding history”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Toki was asked for his thoughts on the letter, and he was incredibly supportive of his newfound friend, saying, “He’s so upset, he’s seen his sister being given so many opportunities. Some people like to climb the corporate ladder and not look back. I understand - there are two sides to every tale.</p> <p dir="ltr">“But from everything I know - I like Tom, and I think he loves his sister. As brothers and sisters we give each other s**t and we fight and get back together. At the end of the day family is family.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Tom really wants to reconnect with his sister - he loves his sister,” Toki said while tearing up and adding, “I’m actually getting quite emotional over this - sorry.” Asked by Big Brother if this struck a chord with him, Toki replied, “A little bit… A little bit… I haven’t spoken to my sister for the last two or three years, I just started speaking to her again.</p> <p dir="ltr">"Family is family and deep down the love is always going to be there, it doesn’t matter what happens.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Toki was then asked to convince Markle to write an apology to Meghan, which Markle agreed to do. Asked what it was like growing up with Meghan, Markle said, “It was fun. There was a whole lot of love growing up. Her first nickname as a child was ‘flower' because her bedroom she had these decorative flowers over her crib, so when she woke up that’s the first thing she would see.”</p> <p dir="ltr">“She’s my sister and she’s my blood and I love the hell out of her.”</p> <p dir="ltr">After taking some time to write the letter, Markle read it aloud. He had written, ”Dear Meghan and Harry, the first thing I want to say to you two is that I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart for the awful, mean letter I wrote to you prior to your wedding.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I want both of you to know that it didn’t come from the real person I am, but came from the very dark, hurt part of my heart. I am not a mean person at all and I have more love inside me to give than anyone I know.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The letter was definitely written from my feeling hurt and confused from your response that I was ‘distant family’ and that you ‘didn’t know those people’. I was hurt and confused because of the amazing bond and relationship we shared growing up together, and all I could do was put up a defensive wall to protect my heart.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I know that the letter was immature and wrong and I truly regret it. When your relationship with Harry first became known to the public, I - along with all of our family - became public figures overnight - no more privacy.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Let me tell you, It was very, very stressful to deal with it all alone with no help at all. A real nightmare and constant pressure, and I if I could turn back the clock and do it all over knowing what I know now. I would never have tried to communicate any of my feeling to the media. I feel like a complete ass after what I’ve done and I am truly sorry for that.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Meg, if I could turn the clock back, I would tell you that I'm so, so proud of you and I'm truly happy for you and Harry and I love you. You’re my little sister, my family, and you always will be. Now you’ve found the love of your life and started a family of your own, I couldn’t be more proud.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The last several years of my life I have grown and learned more about myself, and I must say what I did to you with that letter is quite possibly the biggest mistake of my life. I hope you and Harry can find it in your hearts to accept my sincere apology because this is the real Tom Markle. I truly love you guys. I wish you, Harry and Meghan, and Archie and Lili the happiest most loving life possible. Thomas Markle Jr spills secrets on Big Brother

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Appearing on </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Big Brother VIP</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> in the UK, Thomas Markle Jr has begun to share intimate details about his half-sister Meghan. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He claims that since marrying into the Royal Family in 2018, Meghan treats her family as if “she’s embarrassed of where she comes from”.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Thomas said he was once close to his sister, but the last time he saw her was at their grandmother’s funeral in 2011. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“She took off after that anyway and went to Canada... What happened to her? Nobody can figure it out,” Thomas said of his half-sister.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Money changed her I guess. Money and fame just went to her head really bad.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Thomas also went on to discuss Meghan’s first marriage to American film producer Trevor Engelson, who she was married to between 2011 and 2013. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to their divorice papers, the pair split due to “irreconcilable differences”, as Trevor described the way Meghan handled the divorce as “cold”.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“The thing that gets to me is the guy that she was married to the first time, Trevor. This guy just took care of her like, man she was adored by him and she just walked all over him and dumped him, that fast... after being married,” Thomas told his fellow </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Big Brother </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">housemates.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Sent the ring back in the mail.
